The ElectriVillage H2E energy system which the municipality of Mariestad in Sweden is building is unique in its kind. It contains the world's first hydrogen fuel station, which is powered by 100% solar energy from a solar cell park. It is showing the way to fossil free transport without expensive lithium batteries. The energy system should be used to produce hydrogen gas, to fuel the cars of the town and other travellers driving hydrogen cars. In addition, excess solar energy can be stored using hydrogen, and used as a backup power on the electricity grid when the sun does not light. Agree to this campaign if you want to encourage the municipality of Mariestad to do even more and for other cities to join in! You are also welcome to comment and discuss hydrogen technology. Is it the future technology if it is powered by solar?

I completely agree with Tamara. Public transport needs to be made cheaper. I live in the UK, where public transport costs are one of the highest worldwide. A few months ago I was considering to take the train to Edinburgh, however, the costs for a return train for a family of five was extremely high, that we had no choice than to travel by flight, which was much cheaper. People who are living from hand to mouth are sometimes left without choice - and end up opting for the cheaper choices, even though it might not be as environment-friendly as they wish to live. We have to find the right balance here.

Is any natural gas involved in the process?

Hi Albin (we've met in Klimatpakten). It should be totally fossil free. Solar-powered. Please ask Susanne Wallnér, "utvecklingsstrateg" of Mariestads kommun, who will know for sure. https://mariestad.se/Mariestads-kommun/Foretag--Naringsliv/ElectriVillage-Mariestad.html

Definitely a good alternative, but in my opinion the first step should be to make public transport cheaper and accessible for everyone to decrease individual fossil transport (by car).

True, that's even more cost-efficient and eco/resource-efficient. But also, we need to do both, we won't have everyone to leave their car - we must get everyone involved! Anyone with insights in hydro-powered busses / public transport Please link to them or studies of them.

Interesting. American clean truck startup Nikola motors just presented their latest prototype trucks running on H2. Think thats the area as well as in shipping where H2-technology can make the most climate impact: https://nikolamotor.com/
