◽️ MICROPLASTICS IN THE ATMOSPHERE

❗️ SHOCKING NEWS! Another consequence of plastics pollution is affecting the planet's global processes.
A new project's research on microplastics in the atmosphere has found that microparticles of plastics such as polyethylene, polypropylene and other polymers can affect the process that triggers ice formation in clouds.

🔵In particular, in the presence of microplastics, water begins to freeze already at -22 °C instead of the usual -38 °C. This discovery points to the possibility that microplastics have a significant impact on climate by changing the behavior of clouds and precipitation.

ℹ️ For clouds to form, moisture in the form of vapor must settle on tiny particles, such as dust or biological fragments, and turn into water droplets or ice crystals.
Recent research has confirmed that microplastics can also fulfill this function, facilitating the formation of ice crystals at temperatures 5-10 °C higher than normal. This suggests that microplastics in the atmosphere can form clouds even under conditions previously thought unsuitable for this.

❄️Ice particles in clouds have a significant impact on climate because many types of precipitation are formed precisely from ice particles. In the highest layers of the atmosphere, cold clouds contain frozen particles of moisture. When ice begins to form, it absorbs water vapor from surrounding droplets, gradually increasing in size and weight. Eventually these crystals fall to the ground as precipitation.

✏️Professor Miriam Friedman, lead researcher on the project, emphasized the importance of studying microplastics in the atmosphere to understand their potential impact on climate processes.

🚨This is another important reason why humanity needs to consolidate scientific potential into a single scientific center as soon as possible to rapidly solve climate problems.
A new interdisciplinary approach and new technologies will help find a way to calm the climate and improve the planet's ecology.
