Costa Rica commemorates World Environment Day

In commemoration of World Environment Day, the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) organized an activity this June 5 in conjunction with the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR), where the report that the bank has been compiling up to 2023 was presented. . of the environmental accounts of Water, Forests, Energy, Flow of Materials and Environmental Protection Expenditure of the private sector. In addition, the incorporation of a new Ocean Environmental Account was announced that will begin reporting from 2025.
The activity included the participation of the Minister of Environment and Energy, Mr. Franz Tattenbach, and the Manager of the Central Bank, Hazel Valverde.
Environmental Accounts account in a coherent and integrated manner, the physical and economic value of natural resources and their relevance to national wealth. In addition, they generate a series of indicators that allow us to know the supply and use of natural resources as well as their interaction with the different economic activities of the country, which contributes to the formulation of public policy and the decision-making process.
To support the creation and dissemination of environmental accounts, as well as recommend and define the guidelines for their implementation, the National Council of Environmental Accounts (CNCA) was formed, made up of MINAE, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Policy (Mideplan) and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC).
The details of the accounts can be consulted here:
