In France there is a law since 2016 prohibiting supermarkets to throw eadible food in the garbage. Why not make the same for the whole EU. I cannot see any cons or contradictions.

This should be law. 1/3 of global food is wasted and that is not a statistic that can be ignored especially with millions facing starvation.

Plant and animal waste should be used to make fertilizer instead of using toxic petroleum to make fertilizer

Some people are starving, others throwing food contributing to pollution. I agree there should be laws and regulations in this sphere of pollution.

In the U.S., food banks pick up excess food from supermarkets and distribute it to the poor, who put food waste into compost bins. Farmers use it to compost gardens.

The world should have such laws

It's good but it could be better, the law only applies to some supermarkets, and they tend to pay fines instead of taking care of the issue. Also, it moves the issue to charities that don't have enough resources to handle so much food at once.

@sarah_chabane and one law doesn't fit all. In Sweden food waste happens mostly at the household level, so a different law would have more impact

@Rentzhog that's right! @Alfa_Laval has a solution. The heat exchangers can save energy waste.
