Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposed the strongest-ever federal emissions standards for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles.
By promoting the production of cleaner, more eco-friendly vehicles, these new emission standards will help drive us towards a cleaner future and play a crucial role in combating the climate crisis.
Here are some of the big takeaways from the EPA’s strongest-ever proposed federal vehicle emission standards:
- If enacted, the U.S. would avoid nearly 10 billion tons of CO2 emissions, which is equivalent to *TWICE* the total U.S. carbon emissions in 2022.
- By reducing fuel and maintenance costs associated with combustion engine cars, the average owner of a light-duty vehicle can expect to save up to $12,000 over the vehicle’s lifetime.
- These proposed standards would reduce oil imports by approximately 20 billion barrels!
- The EPA estimates that the benefits of the proposed standards would exceed costs by at least $1 trillion.
It’s also worth noting that the EPA’s proposed strong emission standards for vehicles will reduce air pollution, and improve public health, especially in communities affected by poor air quality.
It’s great to see that America is taking the bold and necessary steps toward an eco-friendly future, setting an example for others to follow.

About time! Just hope the Republicans won't change it back if they win back the White House in 2024...
