Ecoins celebrates 6 years of existence by climbing the ladder of the circular economy, by promoting repair before recycling, through its next and innovative project: “The Right to Repair”
Ecoins is a regional program that was born in April 2018 in Costa Rica under the leadership of the company PrĂłxima ComunicaciĂłn. It seeks to promote the correct disposal of recoverable materials and promote a circular and solidarity economy through an incentive plan and public-private alliances that help accelerate the processes of cultural change.
This is part of the National Circular Economy Strategy (ENEC) of Costa Rica, which the Ministry of Energy and Environment (MINAE) developed in coordinaciĂłn with other instituciones and the prĂvate sector and with the support of the CTCN, and through which we aspire to turn Costa Rica into a leading country in circular economy, innovation and sustainability for Latin America, through a model of sustainable economic development, based on a circular and resilient productive system, and strengthened by a expert network of innovation centers in the consolidation of productive chains and circular businesses as a driver of inclusive territorial transformation.
With the purpose of reintegrating into consumer culture the habit of repairing before discarding or recycling, ecoins is developing the first Central American directory with repair options, prioritizing SMEs that offer repair services.
The Right to Repair is supported by the Green SMEs Initiative II, which is a tripartite effort between the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, the Government of Germany, through KfW, and the European Union, whose objective is the protection of the climate and the environment, creating and offering adequate, efficient and sustainable financial products for the SME sector with investments in renewable energy, energy efficiency and cleaner production.
