Wooden wind power towers reduces CO2 emissions

The swedish company Modvion has figured out a way to make sustainable wooden towers for wind power. A modular construction in laminated wood enables easier transport and the possibility of taller, more effective towers. The international energy agency IEA claims 30,000 new wind turbines are needed a year. With increasing demand, its important with sustainable production. According to Modvion wooden towers reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 90 percent compared to traditional ones made from steel or concrete. - The wooden tower means a 30 percent reduction in the total climate emissions for wind power plus a carbon dioxide storage in the wooden structure for the wind power industry, which can thus become completely carbon dioxide neutral, says Otto Lundman, CEO and co-founder of Modvion. Hi Leo Alexander, Thank you for sharing what we do at Modvion, we really appreciate it! The climate benefits of a wooden tower are huge considering that the materials used today are not environmentally friendly. By replacing steel and concrete with wood, you make the largest emitting component in a wind turbine (the tower) virtually emission free. A wooden tower reduces emissions by 90% when compared to a similar tower in steel and in addition you have the carbon capture properties of wood. Taking this into account means that the tower reduces and stores more carbon than it emits, making it carbon negative (according to research conducted by RISE). Right now we are producing modules for our next tower that is planned to be finished during 2023. It's a commercial wind turbine reaching 150m total height, including the blade, and will be the world's tallest wind turbine tower made from wood. @Modvion What you're doing is great, good job! I have however a question: how do you ensure that the wood you use to build these wind turbine towers is sustainably produced?
