Kenyan Government about to poison millions of birds to save the harvest

According the Government officials chemical spraying is the only thing that will help against an estimate of 10 million quelea birds that are destroying rice-fields in Kenya. But Environmentalist warns the spraying of deadly chemicals risks degrading the environment, poisoning waters and killing of other animals than intended. – Use of deadly chemicals to kill the birds is wrong. Besides killing rare birds and other wild species, the chemicals will affect the soil the farmers rely on to produce the grain and even nearby water bodies or grazing fields. So many organisms rely on the wetlands for survival, said Raphael Kapiyo, associate dean at the Maseno University School of Agriculture and Environmental sciences. There are less destructive options proposed, like putting up scarecrows, hire people to chase the birds away and to monitor the birds breeding & migratory patterns. Kenya Gov should reconsider and evaluate other possible options. We can't keep doing this kind of thing! it will impact so much other biodiversity and it is inherently wrong, we have to find a better way so that people can eat and nature can flourish.
