Ørsted shuts down last remaining coal plant

Ørsted decision to shut down the Esbjerg Power Station symbolizes a major milestone in the global energy transition. As one of the largest energy companies in Europe, sØrsted' move from being heavily dependent on coal to nearly 99% green energy by 2025 is a remarkable example of sustainable corporate transformation. Since 2006, Ørsted has been progressively reducing its coal use and shifting toward renewable energy sources like sustainable biomass.

The closure of Esbjerg Power Station will reduce coal consumption by approximately 500,000 tonnes per year and lower CO₂ emissions by 1.2 million tonnes—comparable to taking 600,000 cars off the road. Ørsted’s progress underscores the potential for large-scale energy companies to reduce environmental impact and embrace greener technologies..
