Västtrafik bans all advertising for fossil fuels and fossil-powered vehicles in public transport with immediate effect.
"Advertising that leads to increased emissions at the same time as we do everything to reduce our emissions is strange," says Västtrafik CEO Lars Backström.
The decision, which was taken in November, means that travelers will no longer be able to take part in advertisements for fossil fuels, fossil-powered cars or air travel on Västtrafik's vehicles and stops. The ban covers advertising surfaces on all buses, trams, trains and boats that Västtrafik uses, as well as on the approximately 650 bus stops that Västtrafik has control over.
However, the agreements you have today will not be terminated, but those that are ongoing will be allowed to expire. But no new agreements may be entered into that do not comply with the new guidelines.
“This is another step after we previously introduced a ban on advertising that encourages gambling for money, tobacco and advertising aimed at children. And since for many years we have had clear goals and worked to reduce our own carbon dioxide emissions to almost zero, so it becomes sacrilegious to simultaneously contribute through our advertising spaces to an overall increase in carbon dioxide emissions," says Lars Backström. Not only do advertisements have a negative effect by portraying harmful stereotypes and products, but they also play an important role in negatively influencing the environment, posing harm to our economic sustainable development goals.

@Kevin public transport should exemplify sustainability, not contradict it by promoting fossil fuels. Eliminating such advertisements reinforces a consistent message toward reducing emissions and fostering greener practices.

Once a product is declared harmful, then it's only ethical for the producers to stop its promotion. Well done.
•

@tabitha_kimani It is very true once considered harmful it should be turned completely.
