Happy World Ocean Day

Scientists at the Global Monitoring Lab have identified a notable rise in CO2 levels from 2022 to 2024, primarily due to persistently high fossil fuel emissions and concurrent El Niño events. This combination has substantially weakened the capacity of global terrestrial ecosystems to effectively sequester atmospheric CO2. As a result, elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations are significantly influencing ocean chemistry—leading to heightened ocean acidification and decreased dissolved oxygen levels. These transformations present considerable developmental challenges for certain marine species.

The health of our oceans is intrinsically linked to our daily climate actions. It is imperative that we collaborate diligently to safeguard our marine environments without delay.
