Carbon-Saving Hardware for a Sustainable Future

Internet data centers (IDCs) are notorious for their high energy consumption, but NAVER, South Korea's leading internet conglomerate, is setting a new standard with its eco-friendly flagship facility, GAK Sejong. Spanning an area equivalent to 41 football fields, this cutting-edge center integrates NAVER’s advanced technologies, including AI, robotics, and cloud services, while prioritizing sustainability. Recognizing the environmental impact of IDCs, NAVER committed to building energy-efficient and eco-conscious infrastructure as part of its "2040 Carbon Negative" agenda.

To achieve this vision, NAVER partnered with ASSA ABLOY through its distributor CATIS to implement innovative, sustainable solutions. The collaboration brought high-security, energy-efficient hardware to the project, including ANSI grade 1-rated electromechanical locks, swing door operators, and auto door bottoms. These features ensure not only enhanced security but also a significant reduction in energy usage. ASSA ABLOY also introduced Korea’s first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)-certified door closer, reflecting its dedication to sustainability and long-lasting solutions.

With ASSA ABLOY's comprehensive support, NAVER's GAK Sejong data center successfully combines state-of-the-art technology and eco-friendly practices. This partnership underscores the critical role of sustainable hardware in reducing the carbon footprint of IDCs, paving the way for greener, more responsible digital infrastructure.
