UK retailers , producers to fund e-waste home collection from 2026.

The UK Government has proposed a plan for retailers and producers to finance the home collection of electronic waste (e-waste) for recycling starting in 2026. This initiative aims to offer British households more convenient ways to dispose of e-waste, aligning with public willingness to recycle electronics at local supermarkets, electrical retailers, or charity shops. The proposal seeks to address the improper disposal of millions of household electricals each year, promoting a circular economy and job creation. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/dec/28/retailers-to-pay-for-consumers-e-waste-recycling-from-2026-under-uk-plans

This is a great plan that will go a long way in reducing the e-waste in UK. Retailers and producers have an obligation to make this regulation successful.

Shifting the responsibility and cost to producers and retailers could decrease the burden on local authorities currently managing e-waste collection.
