Could Berlin’s nightlife scene lead the way towards a sustainable future? ♻️
Huge sound systems and lots of lighting make the over-300 clubs in Berlin real energy guzzlers. According to NGO Friends of the Earth Germany, a single medium-sized club uses up to 100 Kwh of electricity per weekend.
Berlin’s long-standing queer club, SchwuZ is a frontrunner in sustainable clubbing and aims to be carbon-neutral:
💡 As we found out at the SET Tech Festival 2021, SchwuZ uses economical and highly efficient LED lamps to light up their dance floors, as well as aerators for water efficiency.
⚡️ The venue draws electricity exclusively from renewable sources via their provider Green Planet Energy eG.
🤝 What started as a planery discussion led by Berlin Partner at the #SETTF21 could soon turn into a #partnership that would help the club save on it’s heating bills. SchwuZ is in talks with Scottish geothermal start-up TownRock Energy, whose new BODYHEAT pump concept could prove to be a game-changer. (https://bit.ly/3W4oto6)
