In the short, summer months especially, the tundra can become flourishing areas for both plants and animals. . Fact: there are more than 1,700 different species of plants that live throughout the world's tundras. On mountaintops, and even above the Arctic Circle - there is more than just ice and snow. It may not be as biodiverse as the Amazon, but for an area that has warm-ish weather for only two months of the year and permafrost that can extend 1,800 meters below the surface, it's amazing plants can grow here at all! . .
