Regenerative agriculture seeks to boost pineapple production without agrochemicals

“Jorge Sánchez, general manager of Nicoverde, a subsidiary of the Italian company Nicofrutta, commented that they have been developing regenerative agriculture since 2019. He highlighted the use of microorganisms to control pests and diseases, managing to almost completely reduce the use of agrochemicals in the pineapple production, in addition to reusing organic matter for the production of fertilizers.
These microorganisms eliminate the pathogens that cause damage to fruit production and are the generators of the decomposition of organic matter (stubble) to convert it into fertilizer. This process has strengthened the resistance of the plantations, said Sánchez. The company, located in Pital de San Carlos, also managed to start a carbon capture program.”
