DW’s Global Media Forum addresses the dangers of climate denial by journalists

With the urgent need to do something for the planet, we need all hands on deck. We cannot afford misinformation, or fake news, about global warming. It will be like losing precious time that could otherwise be spent on transitioning to green energy. There is a new form of climate denial doing the rounds. It is called "new denial." Some researchers at the London School of Economics refer to it as climate change "delayism." Isabelle Schläpfer, research manager at Internews, said, “Over 45% of journalists say [disinformation] has increased, mostly due to social media. It distorts the conversation about climate change. It takes attention away from what matters and what it means for ordinary people's lives.” Climate denial is the mindset which rejects the idea that there is scientific proof of the fact that human activities cause global warming. This means denying the fact that fossil fuels are not good for the environment. However, climate change is real, and it is caused majorly due to fossil fuel burning. Read this review about a CNN report that has shown how fossil fuels are directly related to climate change.

They say information is power meaning that misinformation is a destruction and a big impediment to a sustainable future. Happy to see journalists pursued to do the right thing buy relaying the right information.
