European Council gives green light for EU withdrawal from climate-wrecking Energy Charter Treaty

The Council of the EU today adopted a historic decision to withdraw the European Union from the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), an international investment treaty from the 1990s increasingly used by the fossil fuel industry to sue governments over their climate and energy policies.
Today’s Council decision followed after the European Parliament massively voted in favour of exiting the Energy Charter Treaty in April this year.

The EU's withdrawal from the Energy Charter Treaty positively affects the planet and people's health by reducing support for fossil fuel projects, encouraging cleaner energy alternatives. Let's all encourage sustainability and work towards achieving it.

@ann_nyambura_542 Agreed. Seeing as it puts the EU on the path to sustainability by adoption of renewable energy as the chief source of energy across the countries signed on. We hope to see action to increase green power production in the EU increase drastically

@walter_lungayi It is also a huge statement considering how many nations are unwilling to leave such arrangements. The EU's exit is strategic enough to show other nations that usually follow it's footsteps that it's okay to leave the outdated methods behind and to embrace green energy and sustainability.
