Ringway Hounslay Highways is replacing their diesel trucks with Volve’s FE ELectric trucks

Ringway is replacing its diesel highway maintenance trucks with Volvo’s 26-tonne Volvo FE Electric 6×2 rigid, a first in the UK highways sector.

The Volvo EV features a tipper grab body and low-entry cab, complying with London’s five-star Direct Vision Standard (DVS) requirements. Ringway’s Volvo FE Electric replaces a similarly sized diesel vehicle in the Hounslow fleet, thus taking a step towards sustainability. The new eco-friendly truck will be used on various street service works and highways across the 451-km local highway stretch in the urban London borough. It will operate 24/7 covering over 30,000 kms annually providing routine, cyclical and reactive highway maintenance works Hounslow streets, its 45 bridges and highway structures, 16,000 streetlights, 16,000 drainage assets and 11,000 trees. It will also provide street cleansing, emergency response, and winter and severe weather service operations. What is a borough? A borough is a township or an area in London, and borough councils are local bodies in charge of the social welfare of the boroughs. What is Hounslow Highways? It is a partnership between the London Borough of Hounslow (a London borough council) and two companies: VINCI Concessions and Ringway, a highway construction company.       Switching to electric trucks significantly cuts emissions, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gases. This is a positive step toward sustainable urban transport, decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting cleaner air. Kudos, and more should follow.

              @boniface_kuria I think it's more about the private initiative in this case to develop this and get it operational though we shouldn't forget the government policies that have allowed this to occur.
