Tradewater's post

"And while the report stresses the urgency of limiting warming to prevent terrible risks, it has a new message, too: We can do this. We now know how to make the dramatic emissions cuts we’d need to limit warming, and it’s very possible to do this in a way that’s sustainable, healthy and fair. The conversation has moved on, and the role of scientists has changed. We’re not just warning of danger anymore. We’re showing the way to safety."
We're inspired by Dr. Kate Marvel (Project Drawdown) and her recent essay in the The New York Times, where she reflects on the findings of the Fifth National Climate Assessment, which she was a leading author on.We know that the situation is dire. We know that we are running out of time. But we also know what we need to do to prevent catastrophic changes and have the pathways to get there. We just have to take them.

The recognition that we have the knowledge and means to achieve substantial reductions in a sustainable, healthy, and equitable manner provides hope and direction for effective climate action

The excerpt expresses a shift in the narrative on climate change, moving beyond emphasizing the dangers to highlighting a sense of hope and agency. Dr. Kate Marvel's reflection on the findings of the Fifth National Climate Assessment signals a change in the conversation. The report not only stresses the urgency of limiting global warming but also asserts that we now have the knowledge to make the necessary emissions cuts in a sustainable, healthy, and fair manner.
