The Albanese Government is dedicated to shaping a distinctly Australian future by investing significantly in clean energy and emissions reduction initiatives at major industrial sites nationwide. Through the Powering the Regions Fund, they are allocating $330 million to nine critical projects aimed at bolstering the resilience and growth of Australian industry, particularly in response to increasing global demand for low-emission products. These investments not only aim to create hundreds of new jobs during the construction phase but also aim to safeguard existing regional positions that have been vital to Australian families and communities for generations.
During a visit to Cement Australia’s historic Railton facility in Tasmania, Minister Bowen announced a substantial investment of $52.9 million. This funding will be utilized to upgrade their kiln and optimize the use of alternative fuels, including waste, with the objective of reducing emissions. Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen emphasized that this $330 million investment in Australia’s hard-to-abate manufacturing and mining facilities is focused on securing the future of high-quality, low-emission products made domestically.
The Albanese Government is also supporting several other crucial projects across the country, including energy efficiency upgrades at the QAL Alumina Refinery in Gladstone, QLD, a emissions intensity reduction initiative at Adbri Cement Manufacturing in Port Adelaide, SA, and energy efficiency upgrades at Shoalhaven Starches Food Manufacturing in Nowra, NSW, among others. These investments underscore the government's commitment to supporting Australian industry and promoting sustainability across various sectors.
