The city of Helsinki says no to meat and cow's milk and single use cutlery

Meat and cow’s milk will no longer be served at public events, seminars, meetings or workshops in Helsinki from January 2022 as part of the city's ambition to reduce its CO2 emissions. Coffee and tea will come from fair trade providers, oat-based products will replace cow’s milk, and menus will consist of seasonal vegetarian dishes or responsibly-sourced local fish, the city will also get rid of single-use cutlery. The city opens up for certain exceptions, for example, if the Swedish king comes to visit, local venison can be offered, says mayor Juhana Vartiainen to the newspaper Iltalehti. The decision has been welcomed with strong criticism for not supporting the local meat producers and is seen as an act of greenwashing, some older politicians said they would even boycott the events organized by the city, and I am sure they will be missed :) Always interesting to observe the reactions to such decisions! Good job Helsinki, it's great to see small cities leading the way and I hope Stockholms stad will follow. https://www.helsinkitimes.fi/finland/finland-news/domestic/20311-helsinki-announces-meat-is-coming-off-menus-of-city-run-events-drawing-criticism.html https://sverigesradio.se/artikel/helsingfors-sager-nej-till-kott-svenske-kungen-far-undantag
