Restoring Wales' lost Celtic rainforest to its ancient glory

Did you know there was a rainforest in the UK? A lost piece of Celtic rainforest in Pembrokeshire, Wales, is set to be restored to its ancient glory. The 59-hectare site will be planted with native species like oak and small-leaf lime, reconnecting with remnants of the Celtic rainforest in the Gwaun Valley. The project, supported by a £38m donation from Aviva, is part of the Wildlife Trusts’ 100-year Atlantic rainforest recovery programme.
Adam Dawson, senior conservation officer at the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales, emphasises the historical significance and ecological richness of this restoration effort. By reintroducing diverse plant life and creating habitats for various species, the project wants to bring the landscape back to its natural state, reminiscent of neolithic times.
