Circular Table Talks "Plastic: Molding a Sustainable Future Now" 🗓 February 8 🕒 15:00 CET We Don't Have Time and Ragn-Sells are proud to present the fourth episode in a series of six in-depth table talks on the subject of circularity. This episode will focus on plastics and plastic waste, examining how we can fast forward, real and sustainable markets for recycled waste plastics. Hearing from guests about the global situation and spotlighting some breakthroughs in circularity such as new processes for bringing back previously hard to reuse plastics. Ask your questions to our guests in the comments section down below ⬇ https://youtu.be/7w3n-G7GmYs

We need to get to these 'treaties' pretty quick! Many have no concept of how ineffective our current measures are. We managed without plastic and most uses are not essential. Use it ONLY where it makes sense.

I honestly can't believe that we aren't able to create the perception of reality and the critical nature of this situation. Not trying to put the bar too high or overwhelm anyone. I understand the imperfection within the system of today but we need leadership within communities on this planet to make the conscious choice by knowing the severity of the outcome if we don't respond proactively. Damage control hasn't worked for most of the errors of the past. We need education about what is at stake and how to move into a new economy in preparing ourselves and youth through confronting the truth of the matter staring us in the face and mounting in landfill, poisoning our water, bio accumulating in all of our bodies, and then there is the CO2 associated exponentially increasing.

such an initiative would be beneficial in African countries where we have a huge plastic waste problem.

Do you have materials datasheets for each of the fully recycled and recyclable polymer thermoplastic types which are presently available for delivery to Teeside in the UK ? I used to rely on the CRC materials handbook a lot. Is there an equivalent tabulation of materials properties which ought to be known to product design teams (and shop purchasing and product pre-selection) and more widely distributed ? For the example of the washing brush: By how much should the handle be thickened and strengthened if the inhomogeneous material were to be used instead of virgin injection moulded polyethylene ? Presumably the bristles might need to be made of something else. Are there preferred types of brush bristle which will be miscible with the handle when remelted or otherwise reprocessed at end of life ?

Do we really need all the plastics to avoid food waste? France is gradually getting rid of its plastics for fruits and vegetable are other countries using food waste as an excuse not to follow?

It depends on what type of vegitable. But I believe we can use less and ALWAYS demand recycled origin.

First we need to make sure that there is a market demand, it does not start with sorting (we have proven that it is possible), we need to have a change that recyled origin is the mainstream and not oil when new products is produced.

Eco-Sense is Cost Free. Thanks to WDT and Ragn-Sells, the Space age and the Plastics age has been always welcome in human history. just as Fire and Iron. Today, the issue is not Plastic use but abuse of it. Fever can never be a disease. It was Einstein who visioned that we must earn wisdom from our elders. So was Thoreau, who queried " What is the use of a beautiful home, if you do not have a decent planet to put it on". I am circular over seven yeras. I carry a cloth bag, one steel water bottle, one steel cup, one steel plate, one steel spoon, one steel pipe for tender coconut. I demand hot water in public places as a public mandatory guideline. Pl, tell me where is Plastic abuse in my lifestyle. I take these co-passengers each time I go out of home, be it for shopping or to Montreal, Washington DC, Vatical Museum, Atom Tomb, Hiroshima. Change your lifestyle, prevention is the way out. Not create a mountain and try for tunnels.,. Great discussion! I believe we as consumers can contact the manufacturers/stores and demand more sustainable packaging. When enough people speak up, the boardroom listens, and usage of plastic will decrease. International treaty if signed as law it can help to reduce plastics from all countries that will be members of such a treaty.

Massimo Forti and his team in Denmark has done something that not has been done anyplace in the world before. The most difficult plastics is the world is possible to use - and I do not talk about PET quality that already has a circular loop.

10% recycled, 12% incinerated - the rest ?? In our oceans, in landfills and all over the place... Lets give the 78% other a vaule and then we will reduce the need to pump up oil and reduce our CO2 emissions.

Before the global treaty kicks in, and before governments can define and adhere to their goals, what can we do about legacy plastics that are increasing by the minute? When will we agree that corporate-sponsored recovery of plastics from the environment through standardized and audited accounting mechanisms (i.e., plastic credits) are important and proven to be helpful?

By changing the way how we procure we can set a demand that it should be recycled rawmaterial that is prefered. This we do not need to wait for to happen, it can happen now.

Production of re-usable plastics will be a great remedy of the adverse effect of plastics on the environment. Recycling plastics will also go a long way impact the economy in a positive manner. Nice Nugget

It is not more recycling we need, we need more demand of recyled resources! I agree with UNEP representative - we can recycle us out of the problem! A systemetic shift is needed, and circular demand in procurement is a good start!

Burning of plastics is a threat to the world as we know it through CO2 emissions, as well as a tremendously waste of valuable material. The plastics we cannot recirculate today, should we not store it while awaiting procedures to close the plastic carbon circular economy? My own answer is to safely store the huge volumes in Swedish old mines. When the right method is in place to upgrade plastic materials, currently known as waste, we are ready to cheer: Long live plastics! While waiting, who knows, compressed enough the plastics might naturally turn up as oil again, within some 100 000 years.
