The end of the Louisiana LNG export terminal?

On the evening of Wednesday, January 24, according to a report by the New York Times, the Biden administration is halting a decision regarding approval for what could become the largest natural gas export terminal in the United States.
With an export capacity of around 20 million metric tonnes per year, Venture Global LNG's Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) project would be twice the size of the company's present CP plant. If built, it would make Venture Global one of the largest LNG companies in the world.
This delay has the potential to extend beyond the November election and could pose challenges for the mentioned project along with 16 other proposed terminals. The directive from the White House instructs the Energy Department to broaden its assessment of the project, considering not only its economic and national security impacts but also its effects on climate change.
The sources providing this information spoke on the condition of anonymity, as they were not authorized to discuss internal deliberations publicly. Notably, the Energy Department has not previously rejected a proposed natural gas project based on anticipated environmental impacts.
This could be the most important climate move of the Biden administration after the IRA.
I am sending Climate Love to the activist Bill McKibben, one of the loudest voices on this topic, who wrote in his newsletter about this piece of news:
"I’m holding my breath as I type this post. After pouring my heart into this fight for the last six months it seems almost too good to be true." Read his newsletter here:

This is all dependent on Trump not getting elected in November. If so, all will be reversed. Biden must be elected if we want to preserve the climate gains.

The Biden administration's decision to halt approval for the potential largest natural gas export terminal in the United States reflects a significant development in the country's energy policy, signaling a potential shift in approach towards LNG export projects. This move underscores the administration's focus on considering environmental impacts and aligns with its broader climate agenda.
