NEMA Partners With Manufacturers To Enhance Waste Management

The National Environment Management Authority (Nema) has partnered with various manufacturers in the country to enhance waste management. Nema and manufacturers will adopt a circular that prioritizes the minimisation of waste by reusing, recycling and re-purposing materials to create a closed-loop system in effectively reducing pollution. Nema Director General Mamo B. Mamo said the authority has developed and implemented a host of robust guidelines, standards, and permits aimed at promoting circular economy practices. https://www.the-star.co.ke/news/realtime/2024-03-01-nema-partners-with-manufacturers-to-enhance-waste-management/

Working with multiple organisations that understand the Kenyan market is a great move by NEMA as the country looks to cut on pollution through resource maximisation and circularity. Hopefully, this actually reduces the waste that finds it's way into our rivers, lakes and bodies

@george_kariuki Working with stakeholders who have aligned goals with yours will always be a more proactive and successful approach towards issues like waste reduction and environmental management. It would be good to have more nations take a leaf from Kenya

@chris_ndungu It's amazing how they got rid of the use of plastic bags. Though some people are still using them illegally, Neema is always following up.They could make some improvements here and there.

@jane_wangui I think NEMA should be empowered more. That way, they will have more resources to enforce their policies.

This is a great example of how partnerships can lead to innovative solutions and make a positive impact on the environment. Kudos to NEMA and the manufacturers for their dedication to sustainability!

@princess_nel_268 I'd like to imagine that as a country, we can have such more collaborative efforts towards green energy projects between different organisations. For example, KenGen can partner with private organisations to undertake projects in green energy production like solar wind and even our framed hydro power.

NEMA has been given so much power to help in curbing pollution but I feel they are not doing their best.

@felix_mokaya As a bodily mandated by the government to take care of the environment and implement environment laws in regards to the Kenyan constitution, one could almost argue that they can put more effort especially in regulation of the banned plastic paper bags.
