One of Australia's richest men is trying to buy up the coal-heavy energy giant AGL, hoping to stop coal power in the country. IT billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes has teamed up with Canadian fund manager Brookfield for a bid for AGL, Australia's largest and oldest energy operator. The aim is to speed up the closure of the dirty coal power to instead invest in renewable energy, writes The Age and other Australian media. Cannon-Brookes has previously collaborated with, among others, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and is openly critical of the Australian government continuing to see fossil energy as an industry worth supporting. AGL's coal-fired power plant accounts for about 8% of Australia's emissions. But if Cannon-Brookes gets what he wants, coal power will be stopped by about 2030, 15 years earlier than currently thought. Such an inspiring and interesting move 🙌💚💪 I am also very excited to hear about the response from officials in Australia. They do have quite a lot of work to do regarding their views on and use of coal mining…
