BASE's inaugural call of grants supported the implementation of eight climate projects in tropical forests of the Global South while working alongside local researchers to develop a new approach for the projects’ climate evidence. Throughout one year, BASE has achieved significant milestones and learned valuable lessons on overcoming barriers that local communities in the Global South face in accessing climate finance.
The document summarizes the project's journey with its grantees and the communities where activities were implemented, researchers, and a diverse group of actors who accompanied us while we walked the talk. We start by providing some context and explaining the problem BASE aims to address, its goal, and its approach to address it. Then, we delve into the first grant scheme, sharing our strategy for the application stage and what we have learned through that phase. Next, we move into the implementation stage highlighting the achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from eight community-led climate projects and the research process where we tested a particular approach for establishing the climate evidence of projects with more speed, simplicity, and in a manner that resonates with communities.
