In a recent report by environmental nonprofit Industrious Labs the United States of America has been faulted for , Methane emissions at nearly two dozen landfills regularly exceeded federal limits.
According to this report the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations are insufficient to prevent landfills, or garbage dumps, from emitting large amounts of the climate-warming gas methane.
This group highlighting the importance of reduce greenhouse gas emmisions and gas capturing in this landfills has now recommended that EPA must use advanced technology and use more strick regulations to stop emmisions.
Methane gas when released to the air poses a great danger to the environment as well as health of the locals. It is sad to report that in US landfills has accounted for more than 14% of greenhouse gas emmisions.
"More and more evidence is piling up that it's time for the EPA to act and begin that process of updating the rule," Katherine Blauvelt, circular economy director at Industrious Labs, said in an interview.
