Working with supply chain and educating customers is crucial to reducing emissions - Sustainability Report 2021

What is a sustainability report worth? If it’s no more than a string of numbers or vague claims of progress, does it actually provide value to the reader? Or is it just a document that companies write because they have to? When we wrote our sustainability report, we wanted it to be more than just numbers on a page. We wanted it to be a document that educates and inspires the reader to take action and contribute to the circular economy. We are still at the beginning of our sustainability journey, so it is crucial that we communicate what we do in a transparent and engaging way, and that we are clear about what we still need to do. In doing so, we want to invite other actors to follow us or even copy our business model, to take action and help solve the climate crisis. In this sustainability report, we have declared our emission calculations, explained what that means for us as a business, and suggested our next steps for how to reduce our emissions further. So what has our sustainability report told us? 98% of our emissions are in scope 3, our indirect emissions. 52% of our scope 3 emissions come from our value chain and 46% come from the use of our products What this means is that almost all of our emissions are generated from: Our value chain: The raw materials and energy use in the production of the components that make up our computers. The use of our products: the electricity consumption of not only the product, but also the entire workplace and all other equipment, such as the monitor, which must be operated over five years. So what are our most effective climate actions? a) Collaborating with our value chain in order to reduce their emissions, and b) Educating our customers on how to extend the life cycle of their products and how to make sure that the materials are reused once they are done using it. We believe that this insight can be applied to many sectors, and if everyone took responsibility for their scope 3 emissions, that would encourage more collaborations and faster action across entire sectors. In future posts we'll be talking more about specific things we've done to progress on climate so keep an eye out for that if you'd like to learn from real world examples of corporate climate action. We want to be honest and open with you about what we have done and what we have left to do, and we really appreciate your feedback. What do you think we could do to reduce our emissions further? Thanks for your comment and question, Marine. To reduce our scope 3 emissions, we are focusing on developing circular design on our products and services helping to reduce the product carbon footprint, thus the scope 3 category purchased of goods and services and the use of sold products. To address emissions from those two categories representing almost our entire scope 3 emissions, we are working on improving current procurement policy and supply chain choices to reduce further GHG emissions. Towards Customer engagement we are pushing the product as a service model to demonstrate emissions reduction is feasible while using high end and performant products. For the business travel category, we use the greenest option where it is possible, favorizing EV use or train. We partner with Goodwings which promote sustainable travel choices and contribute to emissions emitted through diverse projects. Your #TeamPC
