Schipol Airport is banning private jets and night flights

Night flights and private jets will soon be banned at Amsterdam-Schipol Airport one of the largest airports in Europe!
The objective of the airport, which wants to limit its environmental impact, is a "quieter, cleaner, and higher quality aviation". These measures will be implemented at the latest in 2025-2026. No more flights will be able to lift off between midnight and 6 am or land between midnight and 5 am, which means 10.000 less flights per year.

According to airport estimates, this measure will reduce the number of local residents suffering severe nuisance by 16% and the number of people who experience serious sleep disorders in the vicinity by 54%.
Another key measure is that private jets “will no longer be welcome”. These generate “a disproportionate amount of noise pollution and CO2 emissions per passenger, around 20 times greater than those of a commercial flight”. The project for a new airstrip is also abandoned. “We need to be more sustainable for our employees, for the local environment, and for the planet. I am aware that our choices can have significant consequences for the aviation industry, but they are necessary,” detailed Ruud Sondag, CEO of the Royal Schiphol Group, the airport operator.

This is a heroic move taken by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Of course some of this decisions will be very difficult but very necessary for the sake of our planet and generations to come.

Private jets are a threat to the climate and also cause noise pollution. I AGREE

Night flights not only contribute to noise pollution but also have a greater carbon footprint due to the specific atmospheric conditions at night. Way to go.
