Ministry of Environment and Energy rewards Bimbo Costa Rica

During an event held on May 7, the Ministry of Environment and Energy, led by its minister, Franz Tattenbach, presented the “Efforts in Energy Sustainability and Decarbonization” recognition to Bimbo Costa Rica. The objective of this recognition is to highlight the good practices that the Company has framed within its purpose of Feeding a Better World and its sustainability strategy, where the care of nature is established, with actions to manage waste, efficiently manage the use of natural resources and achieve zero net carbon emissions.
At the event, Gilberto Delgado, Grupo Bimbo's Operations Manager for the Central American region, presented the company's achievements in environmental terms. He highlighted the reduction in the use of plastic in its packaging, where today 92% of them are recyclable, biodegradable or compostable. On its path to being a company with zero net carbon emissions, it mentioned that an advanced network of devices that take advantage of solar energy for the production of energy in its facilities has been implemented with more than 900 solar panels installed in the work centers and spoke on the acquisition of a fleet of 54 electric trucks with which it seeks to remove 228 tons of carbon dioxide from the environment, an initiative that, with a 5-year projection, seeks for the Company to be a pioneer and an example for all Costa Rican companies that add solutions to the cause of zero emissions.
In addition, the baking company shared its commitments and objectives in the short, medium and long term, which include reaching 100% of its operations with renewable electrical energy by 2025, ensuring that all its plants and production centers have treatment systems of wastewater to 100% by 2025, and aim to become a company with net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The Operations Manager also highlighted that their commitment is regional, and that in 2023 they managed to recycle 92% of the waste generated in the region and migrate 8% of the fleet to clean technologies in the 9 countries where the Company operates: Ecuador , Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela and Guatemala. This effort is focused on the group's sustainability strategy and its purpose of Feeding a Better World.
