San Rafael de Heredia will remove pavement to give more space to trees

The project, in collaboration between TEVU (Transition towards an Urban Green Economy) and the Municipality, is carried out in the surroundings of the San Rafael church. Here, machinery works to remove blocks of pavement and make room to plant 39 trees and smaller vegetation.
But why remove the pavement? The idea is simple: replace concrete and asphalt with natural elements such as plants and soil. According to experts, this helps reduce heat in cities and mitigate the risk of flooding.
Another important benefit is that the introduction of native trees promotes biodiversity and strengthens ecological connections.
