HiÂ
Santander, HSBC and other major banks are claiming to be green. But in reality, they're earning billions from destroying the Amazon rainforest.
These banks care about their image and have been marketing their green credentials. A big show of public anger could make them think again.Â
We’re calling on them to stop funding destruction. Instead, they must fund the fair transition to renewables. Will you add your name?
STOP FUNDING AMAZON DESTRUCTION
Citibank, JPMorgan Chase, ItaĂş Unibanco, Santander, Bank of America and HSBC have poured at least USD $20 billion into fossil fuel projects in the Amazon. These six banks alone are behind half of all the funding towards destructive oil and gas exploration in the rainforest.1
They have promised to take action for the climate, preserve biodiversity and protect human rights. But in reality, their money is the driving force behind the destruction.Â
They are funding drilling which is threatening to turn the Amazon into a dry savannah. Their money is behind the threats faced by Indigenous and traditional communities there.Â
We cannot accept that these banks profit from claiming to be sustainable but do the opposite.Â
Sign the petition to demand they end investments in oil and gas exploration in the Amazon.Â

For an Amazon free of oil and gas,
Livia and the team

I see the signing of this petition as crucial to hold banks accountable for funding fossil fuel projects that destroy the Amazon, threaten biodiversity, and harm Indigenous communities, pushing them towards funding renewable energy instead.

We all need to come together and stop fossil fuels before they destroy us.

By now I believe we all have felt the effects of climate change...thus it is time to being about change to the planet and not destroy it.

Very disappointing. It shows the need for greater transparency and accountability in the financial sector's environmental impact.

@walter_lungayi The financial sector will always base their arguments and decisions on money, only way to beat this is by making the oil business unprofitable.

This hypocrisy should stop! Their marketing of green credentials conflicts with their profitable, yet harmful, actions!!

@gorffly_mokua They are sham organizations masquerading as green alternatives while they actively use their "green" resources to fund fossil fuels. It is despicable

We are calling on banks to exclude all types of association with fossil fuel activities and companies.

@rashid_kamau All banks should call off all All companies associated with fossil fuel

@rashid_kamau This might not be possible, Fossil fuels currently play a significant role in the global economy. Sudden exclusion could lead to economic instability and job losses.

@jane_kamau_670 My suggestion is, Banks could gradually reduce their involvement with fossil fuels while increasing investments in #renewableenergy. This would allow for a smoother transition, minimizing economic disruption while still promoting environmental sustainability
