Amazon's Carbon Emissions Fell by 3% in 2023

Amazon announced a 3% drop in carbon emissions in 2023, reducing its output to 68.82 million metric tons of CO2. This reduction was achieved by cutting back on new warehouse and data center construction.
The company aims to be carbon neutral by 2040 and has taken significant steps towards this goal, such as deploying 100,000 electric delivery vans. Amazon also met the renewable energy targets ahead of schedule, but there are concerns about the effectiveness of the renewable energy credits they use.
Amazon's efforts to reduce environmental impact include using sustainable aviation fuel and eco-friendly building materials. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to decreasing its carbon footprint and addressing climate change.

Amazon's 3% reduction in carbon emissions is welcome, though, the company must accelerate efforts by increasing investments in clean energy, sustainable practices, and innovative technologies to achieve its 2040 carbon-neutral goal and make a substantial environmental impact.

The reported reduction in Amazon's carbon emissions is a positive step, but it is essential to consider the broader context. While incremental progress is significant, more ambitious and sustained efforts will be required to align the company's environmental impact with global climate goals.

@walter_lungayi Indeed. The only way we can take seriously is if they make a huge reduction because a 3% reduction barely makes a dent in their overall effect on the planet's health.

@rashid_kamau I would still urge them to show more and to especially green their transportation sector fully if they wish to go fully sustainable.
