During one of our climate awareness interview at Look Up TV, We Don't Have Time Kenya team met with Mr. Wanjuki, the C.E.O of Ecosave Africa Ltd. He took us through the amazing innovative waste management solutions he has developed out of his innate love for conservation and preservation of the environment. He won the Iko Safi Awards in 2019 for his outstanding innovation that is able to eliminate methane gas from the process of waste management. The products are consumed locally and internationally.
Some of the wonderful products include;
1. ECOTREAT
The Ecotreat waste digester is a microorganism based product that breaks down different kinds of waste: human solid waste, animal waste, vegetable gums, fats, complex proteins, oils, and greases as well as cellulose (tissue paper) and starches at an accelerated rate. It breaks all these wastes into carbon dioxide, oxygen, and water. The water can be channeled to the Ecotreat digester for recycling. Additionally, Ecotreat instantly eliminates bad odours from toilets, waste pits, and septic tanks. Compared to other products on the market, Ecotreat does not produce any flammable gases, has no chemicals, and does not have a choking smell.
The real value of the innovation is that Ecotreat breaks down organic waste on-site without exhaustion and eliminates bad odors instantly. Ecotreat does not contain any chemicals and does not emit methane gas which is a culprit in global warming.
The treated water could be used for irrigation, car wash etc and with advanced technology, they plan to treat the water to the point of domestic consumption.
2. ODOUREX URINAL BALLS.
Unlike mothballs which consist of naphthalene that increase greenhouse gas causing global warming and health effect on man and his environs, Odourex does not sublime thus making it non-pollutant.
They also have services like-
1. On site management.
Design and construction of modern septic tanks which allows for 100% water recycling (DWWTs). This helps to eliminate the need to exhaust, assist in waste water recycling and has ability to handle oil spills.
2. Biogas digester for value addition.
Ecosave Africa is also involved in research and development of sewage biogas power projects for municipalities, Governments and the private sectors to embrace and achieve efficient and green energy. Biogas Production can be achieved from animal waste, human waste, plants or food leftovers. Gas can therefore be used in production of energy for local needs or gigantic centralized energy parks for gas or electric power supply to the national grid.
3. Water Desalinization.
They supply and install water desalinization equipment which includes Reverse osmosis (RO) machines and chlorination units. The equipment has the ability to remove dissolved salts, suspended solids, coliforms among other macro ad micro impurities found in water. The range of these equipment include mini RO for domestic drinking water to bigger equipment used for water bottling and large-scale water supply.
Reverse osmosis technology is the only effective solution for desalination of saline and mineralized water. This is because it only uses pressure to separate water from the salt hence no chemicals are required.
