Not a good sign to see that Russian oligarchs and oil billionaires are undermining the effectiveness of COP27 with their covert lobbying despite already being under western sanctions as a result of the war in Ukraine. It's disheartening to see that despite the actionable potential of the COP, there are still so many counterproductive and climate unfriendly players making their presence known at an event dedicated to preserving and saving the planet. As this Guardian articles outlines, it's not just about saving their own multi-billion dollar private businesses, it's an opportunity for many of these oil businessmen to "drum up" new business while sharing spaces with activists and indigenous peoples who have lost much of their livelihoods directly as a result of the fossil fuels these groups are trying to keep on life support! https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2022/nov/12/russian-oligarchs-and-companies-under-sanctions-are-among-lobbyists-at-cop27

Fossil fuels have to be phased out. It’s really a shame to see these interests trying to do “business” instead of transitioning
