Panacea for climate crisis in Kenya not carbon credits,NGOs warn

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have cautioned the government that carbon credits are not a panacea for the climate crisis in Kenya. They argue that the schemes are not a magical solution and call for the establishment of clear regulatory oversight mechanisms for carbon market activities.  They also want the government to monitor and enforce compliance with environmental and social standards to prevent exploitation and environmental degradation.  https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/financial-standard/article/2001483964/carbon-credits-not-panacea-for-climate

This is a matter of the government taking more tangible action to solve the climate crisis rather than the obsession with quick fixes.

I believe the government should stop blanketing action by labeling it as carbon credits. Let us have clear cut out action that does not sound ambiguous

I hope that the Kenyan government will take the concerns of the NGOs seriously.

NGOs in Kenya caution against viewing carbon credits as a sole solution to the climate crisis. They emphasize the need for regulatory oversight and adherence to environmental and social standards in carbon market activities. It's a reminder that while carbon credits can play a role, they are not a magical fix, and comprehensive measures are essential to address climate change effectively.

Relying solely on carbon credits may not be the comprehensive solution needed. It underlines the importance of holistic, community-driven approaches for meaningful and sustainable change.

The government must take heed of this call. Happy for NGO's to take part in the fight against climate change effects.

@joseph_githinji That is a great intervention, carbon credits is only a talk show to make the government sound busy in the climate change discussion.
