Some major pledges have been made today at the UN Climate Summit COP26 in Glasgow. Here are some of today's highlights:
1. More than 100 world leaders commit to end deforestation by 2030. Brazil, home to 60 percent of the Amazon Rainforest, is one of the signatories.
2. The US has rejoined the High Ambition Coalition, HAC, a group of countries pushing for progressive climate action to limit temperature rise to 1,5 degrees Celcius. The US also pledged to reduce methane levels by 30 percent by 2030.
3. China, the US, the UK, and 40 other world leaders have signed a deal to make clean tech affordable everywhere by 2030.
4. Climate pledges also came from Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, pledging to invest $2 billion into restoring lands in developing countries, while India received mixed reactions for announcing a net-zero target as distant as 2070.
My concern is that this COP was to be action oriented but as from the above we have pledges after pledges...What next??
And together we've planted over 150,000 trees. One tree is planted for every climate review written to an organization that is Open for Climate Dialogue™.
How does this work?
