KENYA FOREST SERVICE LEAD THE WAY IN PLANTING TREES, INITIATES CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL LOGGING AND CHARCOAL BURNING.

While hosting a media breakfast Mr. Alex Lemarkoko who is Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) in Kenya Forest Service took time to explain the strategies in place to attain the 15B trees as anchored by President William Ruto. Lemarkoko says there are more than ten strategies in place under Plantation Establishment and Livelihood Improvement Scheme (PELIS) which includes: planting trees on riparian lands, using farms land for agro forestry, planting trees in range lands, planting in open areas , green spaces and public forests. On budget he says they will spend 600B Kenyan money to attain this goal that is targeted to be attained in the next 10 years. Though the amount raised concerns Lemarkoko assured Kenyans of accountability and promises inclusivity of all members of the society. Furthermore on the existing mau forest Lemarkoko explained that protection is paramount and crackdown has been on going to weed out irregularities. In two weeks he says, they have arrested more than 30 people involed in Charcoal burning and illegal logging of cider posts. On Aberdare road cutting across the forest he says measures of mitigation will be taken to ensure this does not affect the forest cover. https://youtu.be/IXF9XZ3RZxk

Kudos to KFS for the good work so far but I feel like should try its best to fill all the loopholes in Kenya that some selfish and greedy individuals use to get away with illegal logging and charcoal burning.. it's time for the government to fully support KFS with all the resources they need.

I think KFS out to have the government tackle the root cause of charcoal burning which is lack of alternative fuels. If the government can provide alternative fuels we'll have reduced levels of logging

@munene_mugambi Its allowed that once you cut down a tree you plant two in replace of what you've cut but people tend to cut and fail to replace
