Bundesliga scores a goal for sustainability: reusable cups now mandatory in German stadiums

The Bundesliga, Germany's top football league, is making reusable cups mandatory in stadiums in an effort to be more sustainable. This will take effect from January 2023. The move is part of the league's "Green Goal" campaign, which aims to reduce the environmental impact of football.
It also follows the requirements from the Packaging Act that has been in force since January 1, 2023. They oblige companies such as restaurants, canteens, supermarkets or cafes that sell takeaway food and drinks to also offer their products in reusable packaging.

The reusable cups will be made of polypropylene, a plastic that can be recycled easily, and will be sold at the stadiums. The league hopes that the move will lead to a significant reduction in the number of single-use cups used at games. The campaign also includes other sustainability initiatives such as reducing CO2 emissions, increasing the use of renewable energy, and promoting recycling.
The league is working with clubs, suppliers, and other partners to develop sustainable solutions and implement them in the stadiums. The goal of the campaign is to make the Bundesliga a role model for sustainable sports events and to raise awareness of environmental issues among fans.
