Weedwackers

Weedwackers are a common tool in gardening in develop and not do develop contries. How these toys work is either based on had or electric/battery powered. The gas ones are very noisy but potent, while the electric/battery ones allows us to switch from oil to a cleaner energy source. The problem I see here, that seems nobody thinks (or don't want to talk about), is the nylon string that most weedwackers use to cut the grass or weeds. This nylon string will degrade and leave a lot of microplastics in the ground, eventually being wash by the rain and reaching rivers, lakes or the ocean. I tried to look for biodegradable string alternatives but couldn't find them. I think this is a major problem but nobody seems to care, since the microplastics produced are kind of invisible for us. Does anyone have an alternative that makes this tools to be useful without the bad side of adding microplastics everywhere?

Hi Juan! I think you are raising an important concern here, maybe instead of writing it as a warning you could send an idea to companies that are selling this kind of tool, I am thinking of Craftsman, Husqvarna or Black & Decker which seems to be big players on the market!

Hi Sarah. That's a good idea, I'll do that. Thanks!
