Spain might pay more employees who bike to work

The Spanish government wants to promote a cycle-to-work scheme with its "En bici al trabajo" initiative and encourage employees to go to work by bike instead of a car.
"The bicycle is not just another mode of transport. Its use produces value for society, not only in terms of mobility but also habitability, health, the environment, equity, sociability, etc. And it produces benefits for those who travel by bicycle and for those who do not, by freeing up space and reducing air and noise pollution", the Spanish government said in a recent statement.
To do this, the government is considering modifying the tax regulations so that companies could pay their employees extra if they bike to work. This has already been implemented in other countries such as France or the Netherlands, where employees can earn up to €800 extra a year if they bike to work in France, and in the Netherlands, up to €1,500.

By not using any gas, bikes don't release harmful emissions that pollute the atmosphere, nor any carbon dioxide that contributes to climate change. Just moderate increases in bicycle use each year could save an estimated 6 to 14 million tons of CO2.

It's still a good way to encourage the use of bikes

It's great that governments are finally trying to give incentives to climate-friendly activities. I think that's a practical way forward. for such an incentive, I'd even walk to work 😂
