Post 875: New Year's Eve - Year in Review: We don't speak for everyone, of course, but the general consensus seems that most everyone is happy to bring in a new year. However, there have been some great things to come out of 2021, and to show you, we picked out some of our favorite "good news" stories from the year:
.
🌎 Post 730: China has now distinguished 25% of its land as "ecological conservation" areas. A decade ago, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment was tasked with determining the most ecologically important areas, but it wasn't until recently that the lines were drawn around those protected areas. Some of the areas are already home to farms and factories, making it unclear how these existing establishments will change or be restricted in their new protected land status.
.
🌎 Post 606: Canada is putting 2.75 billion Canadian dollars towards electrifying its mass transit over the next 5 years. So far, the country has swapped more than 300 buses for eco-friendly ones, and additional funds will help in upgrading 5,000 more buses across the country.
.
🌎 Post 816: There were many commitments made during COP26, but one of the largest (and one we would very much like to see) is the end of deforestation by 2030. Over 100 countries came together, including the United States, the UK, and the EU, pledging to put billions into restoring and protecting rainforests around the world.
