Uganda to start building oil pipeline with pipes from China, as opposition mounts.

Uganda is set to commence the $5 billion East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) in January, following the arrival of the first shipment of pipes from China. Panyu Chu Kong (PCK) Steel Pipe Co, the contracted Chinese manufacturer, delivered the initial 100km of pipes. The pipeline, spanning 1,443km, will transport crude oil from Uganda's Lake Albert oilfields to Tanzania's port of Tanga. Despite opposition, construction is progressing with work on pumping stations, camps, and storage facilities already underway. Uganda aims to export its first oil globally by 2025. The project is viewed as a significant investment in both Uganda and Tanzania, contributing to regional growth.https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.scmp.com/news/china/diplomacy/article/3246803/uganda-start-building-oil-pipeline-pipes-china-opposition-mounts

Oil investments should be discouraged and especially in developing countries like Uganda

They simply choose to ignore the opposition and go ahead with this project that will negatively affect the lives of the people? Shameful

it is tragic to see the amount of investment that countries are willing to put in fossils instead of diverting it to clean energy... at this rate; we are doomed if we don't listen to the warnings

Totally in the wrong direction… Fossil fuel belongs to the past. .. solar, wind, thermo and other renewable energy sources is the green future

So disappointing, Uganda is failing our efforts to phase out fossil fuel

This is sad, the government of Uganda must know investment in oil is posing danger to health and environment in Uganda and beyond.

So you people in the west are happy for your nice clean electric viechles to be built using Lithium, colbalt, chromium from Africa?? The US gets all the oil/ gas it needs to sustain its population Yet you are going to deny Africa its source of income for the same You are going to deny petrol/desiel to a country that could never realistically use electric cars - even if it had the printed paper dollars to pay for electric viechles

This is so disappointing. They should stop and substitute with a plan for renewable energy.
