Trump has vowed to kill US offshore wind projects

Former President Donald Trump's vow to kill U.S. offshore wind projects represents a significant threat to the progress made by the Biden administration in combating climate change. Offshore wind energy, a cornerstone of Biden’s clean energy agenda, is crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning away from fossil fuels. With approximately 65 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity under development—enough to power more than 26 million homes—halting these projects could set back years of work in building a more sustainable energy grid.

Impact on Climate Action Progress

The Biden administration's efforts have been pivotal in positioning the U.S. as a leader in renewable energy. Through initiatives like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), substantial tax incentives have been granted to offshore wind developers, fostering rapid growth in this sector. These projects are not only essential for reducing carbon emissions but also for creating thousands of jobs in green energy. Trump's plan to roll back these incentives and impose executive orders to halt offshore leasing would cripple this progress.

Environmental and Economic Setbacks

Trump’s argument that offshore wind harms marine ecosystems is contradicted by scientific evidence, which shows that properly managed wind projects can coexist with environmental protections. Moreover, the claim that offshore wind is the "most expensive energy" disregards its long-term economic benefits, including lower energy costs and reduced reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets. By undermining offshore wind, the administration would likely shift back to carbon-intensive energy sources, exacerbating climate-related challenges like extreme weather events and rising sea levels.

Global Implications

The U.S. has been a critical player in the global fight against climate change. Its leadership in offshore wind not only contributes to domestic carbon reduction goals but also sets a benchmark for other nations. If the new administration derails these projects, it could discourage other countries from pursuing similar initiatives. This would hinder international climate commitments, such as the goals outlined in the Paris Agreement, and compromise the global effort to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Industry Resilience and Future Prospects

Despite Trump's vow, the offshore wind industry remains cautiously optimistic. Companies have signaled their willingness to adapt and collaborate, emphasizing the sector's economic viability. Furthermore, market forces and state-level commitments could sustain offshore wind development even under federal resistance. Nonetheless, federal support is critical for ensuring long-term growth and achieving national climate goals.

In summary, Trump's opposition to offshore wind threatens to derail the U.S. clean energy transition, weaken global climate efforts, and reverse hard-won environmental and economic gains. The battle over offshore wind reflects broader ideological divides on climate policy, with implications that extend far beyond U.S. borders.

This proposal directly challenges efforts to expand renewable energy sources and could significantly hinder the U.S.'s progress toward a cleaner energy future

This is absurd, even with political differences President Trump should consider protecting projects made for good and especially green projects. It is really disheartening to see the US offshore wind project on the verge of collapsing.

If really we wanted to create a new wind energy system that each home may provide of enough electricity the whole year long then we must think of other ways of doing, like ionisation methods of air molecules when the smallest winds reached such a, either integrated in the roof construction of a single building installation, or as a centrally located energy installation in a large building complex, it’s also always possible to think of much powerful wind turbines than these known ones, which could replace all existing solar systems if we consider the environmental impact these solar panels have when disassembled, their high costs, making dependent many poor countries of world wide producers of such panels, like China and Japan, I am convinced that even wind energy providing roof top tiles could be designed for a lower costs than their counterparts in solar roof coverings, by giving up the concentration of such energy production methods like wind turbines, and by providing each house with it’s own, the chance of being much safer in any troubled times gets much closer, if such roof coverings could be very sensitive and provided by heat-generated ventilation means too, even in wind-poorer places a continuous stream of energy could be possible, to eliminate the use of the hegemonic environment enemy number one; the batteries too, we should research the energy accumulation capability of fase changing Polymers, for my knowledge The Last Frontier in energy conservation methods.

As wind energie is very expensive to implement, efficiency is very low and during any calamities like hurricanes and naval or airborne attacks can directly impact the energy supply for the entire region connected to these horizons’ all natural beauty damaging nonsense propellers, which are simply derived from aircraft technology and not from real design consecrated to win maximum energy from the smallest possible wind power, these devices are absolutely useless and should be removed immediately from every country on earth.

This is so wrong. This stance could hinder progress towards a more sustainable energy future.
