Youth Empowerment and Climate Justice: PACJA's Call to Action.

PACJA, in collaboration with Chuka University and other stakeholders, recently held a Town Hall session stressing the critical need to tackle climate change and mitigate its devastating impact on Africa. The discussion focused on identifying the root causes of climate change, including organic waste, power plants, deforestation, overfishing, and offshore drilling. Participants highlighted alarming consequences such as rising global temperatures, extreme weather events, and sea level rise.Prof. Anne Andayi Sande from Chuka University emphasized the importance of disaster management, outlining a comprehensive cycle covering mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Proposed strategies included rigorous planning, risk assessment, public awareness campaigns, infrastructure upgrades, and insurance provisions.The session underscored the pivotal role of youth empowerment in climate justice, advocating for global solidarity in addressing climate crises affecting economies, livelihoods, and agriculture. PACJA's Executive Director, Mithika Mwenda, called for sustained dialogue and community engagement to strengthen climate resilience and secure essential funding for climate action.Prof. Henry Mutembei, Vice Chancellor of Chuka University, reaffirmed the institution's commitment to influencing national policies through impactful research and community outreach on climate and disaster management. The event united universities across the Mt. Kenya region, demonstrating collaborative efforts necessary to effectively combat Africa's climate challenges.

          @rosebellendiritu You are right. Climate change will affect the young people more and for a longer period compared to older generations and this is why it is imperative the youth take up arms to correct these vices.
