Critically endangered hammerhead sharks finally protected with fishing ban in Costa Rica

Great news for the coolest-looking shark in the world! The ban includes the capture, transportation, storage, and sale of hammerhead sharks and their byproducts.

Appendix II lists species that are not necessarily now threatened with extinction but that may become so unless trade is closely controlled.
This ban is great news for biodiversity, as hammerhead shark populations in Costa Rica have declined by around 90% over the last decade. Although some conservation efforts have been made in the past, this ban signifies a step in the right direction toward protecting endangered species from overfishing.
