Costco friendly waste disposal example

Costco's stores (at least here in the US), have trash cans that encourage people to consider what they are throwing away. Is this something that is recyclable? Is it food waste? Or does it go in the regular trash bin? Costco's inclusion of these options for waste disposal clearly indicates what many other locations aren't doing. Some companies might not think about waste disposal for a variety of reasons, but a well off company has no reason not to contribute to having safe ways to dispose of trash.
