Good Start Packaging, a leading supplier of compostable food and beverage packaging, has partnered with Rethink Food, a US-based non-profit organization, to address hunger and food waste issues. As the official compostable packaging supplier for Rethink Food in 2024, Good Start Packaging aims to go beyond product provision by donating $115,000 and supplying compostable packaging for the grand opening of Rethink Food's new Community Kitchen in New York City. Rethink Food, established in 2017, rescues surplus food from various establishments and transforms it into nutritious meals for communities in need, diverting over 2.3 million pounds of food waste from landfills. Good Start Packaging, a certified B Corporation, donates a portion of its profits to charitable organizations focused on food security, human rights, and environmental protection. The partnership aligns with Rethink Food's mission to create a sustainable and equitable food system, as stated by its founder and CEO, Matt Jozwiak. Together, they demonstrate how businesses and non-profits can collaborate to address social and environmental challenges, simultaneously tackling food insecurity and food waste to create a more sustainable and just food system.

The tale of Good Start Packaging and Rethink Food — a symphony of altruism and collaboration, where compostable packaging meets culinary rescue missions. A commendable effort to tackle food insecurity and waste, with donations and sustainable practices. However, the persistent need for such partnerships highlights systemic issues in our food system that still await comprehensive solutions, but hey, at least the compostable packaging looks good on paper.

@sean_richards I agree. This partnership exemplifies the fusion of sustainability and philanthropy, yet, what does it show? The ongoing challenges within our food system. While progress is evident, better solutions are imperative for lasting change of we're really interested in making a difference in our planet.

@joseph_githinji Yes, the compostable packaging may not look like much but it is very vital. You'd be surprised to learn that a huge number of waste that ends up in land fills is due to food packaging and it is usually non biodegradable which harms the environment even more.
